Jon Sinclair is a precocious 12-year-old boy, living with grandparents who have a very unique hobby time travel. I really enjoyed this book, and I will recommend it to my sons when they are a little older. I was very pleased that this book is written with no questionable content for young readers. That is important to me. It is very well written, and the author is clearly gifted. I hope to find more of her books for my two young sons to read.The storyline is very intriguing, involving time travel, Pirates, and a mystical ring. The young hero and his grandmother travel back to witness the signing of The Declaration of Independance, but their time travel ship malfunctions and they end up separated in Jamaica in the 1600's. They encounter ill willed pirates, scurvy, robbers and more. Of course their technology is soon rendered useless in such an archaic time. Soon the grandfather realizes something is wrong and travels back in time to aid them. I think young teens would be captivated, as even I was as an adult. I imagine some teens might find the book a tiny bit young for them.... There isn't much of the sensational kind of topics, none of the kind of things that teens today seem to like. As a parent I like that aspect, but I have more traditional values than some I think. I wouldn't be surprised if more modern teens lose interest just a little.
It is a very solid and wholesome book. I like the historical aspect... You learn something while you're being entertained!

Author is extremely targeted and captures your attention
The story grabs you and satisfies, tantalizes and leaves you wanting more. I look forward to enjoying it through my grandson's eyes and eagerly await Book 2 in the series. I see great family movie potential in this storyline of inter-generational adventure. And with time travel, the adventures are infinite.
A very entertaining read appropriate for all ages. Looking forward to reading the sequel and Jon's next adventure through time.
BlackHeart's Legacy was read to younger children, but I got wrapped up in the read.
Sally Copus has woven a fast moving, highly enjoyable tale that folks of all ages should love. There is time travel, suspense, and enthralling adventures that keep you reading rapidly - trying to figure out the ending.

The Odyssey of Jon Sinclair is a very easy to read book, maybe too easy, so it's suitable for kids even if they haven't read a 'real' book ever before; it's up there with Narnia and The Dark Matter sagas as something I would give my children as a first novel.
A 21st century boy & his granny travel back in time & meet 17th century pirates & go on an incredible journey separately & then together. This book is geared for Tweens & I'm a granny. I loved this book. It teaches respect, following orders, consequences, the pride of hard work, the rewards & fellowship. It tells of the trials & tribulations of a parent whose child wanders away & how she never gave up searching for him. It gives you a glimpse into the island life of 1692 pirates & islanders; some not so pleasant.
This book was a breeze! I practically swallowed it up in a day! Even though the tale is very suited to a younger audience I find that adults can find much pleasure in this as well.
We start the journey with Jon, an orphan taken in by his grandparents who have a unusual hobby time Travel. After a trip goes terribly wrong it’s up to Jon and his Grandmother to keep their wits together to make it home before a terrible Natural Disaster destroys the area where they landed.
I really enjoyed this story and the flow was great. Although there are many different views (Jon, Gammy, Gramps, Captain Blackheart), your not left lost and confused between each change. The author does a fine job of smoothly transitioning us from one character to another and the story just keeps on rolling! There are a few loose ends at the end and an obvious setup for the next book (which I already picked up) so be prepared to get hooked!
